Thoughts on a Friday

From here

-Hearing this on the radio again.
-How I wish we played it in our high school symphony!
-Maybe in another life.
-"See you in another life, brotha!"
-How long has it been since I played a violin?
-Five years.
-Wow.
-Yesterday I re-fulfilled my dream of sitting in a cafe, just reading and watching people go by the windows.
-That cafe was Starbucks, but a cafe non the less.
-I should do it more often.
-Lots of people with dogs went by.
-And babies.
-I see babies everywhere... And pregnant women. But I digress.
-One striking moment was when a woman in a redcoat went by.
-I wonder where she was off to?
-Heading to her car? Rushing to meet a friend? On the run from something sinister?
-Or, she could just be on the job.
-I could go on.
-Dammit, I need to make some phone calls.
-But it can wait.
-Liz Lemon, you're my hero[ine].
-"You're like a drug to me... My own, personal brand of heroine".
-Oh my god, if that line doesn't make you swoon I don't know what else would.**
-And yes, yes I would like to yell at the moon with Buzz Aldrin.
-"It's the 90s' for God's sake!"
-I didn't realize how often everyone said that til I saw this.
-I love how easy it just rolls off the tongue, unlike other decades.
-Certainly can't say things like that today.
-Maybe I'll bring that saying back, only to result in having everyone think I'm batshit.
-Then again, I guess we're all a little crazy.
-While nobody is perfect, all we can do is be who we think we are when we have an audience before us.
-Or maybe even who our audiences think we are.
-Identity is a magical thing.
-Think about that this weekend.
-Say farewell to September until next year.

Peace, love and chocolate cake.

**I was kidding. No one, not even 1000000 good looking gents (or vamps) could win me over with that line.

Thoughts on the first Friday of Fall

-First day of fall and it rains, whereas yesterday, it was sunny and overall gorgeous.
-Well played Mother Nature, well played indeed.
-At least the leaves are changing colour.
-Mmmmmmoustache!
-Tom Selleck, and your stache' rock.
-Maybe I should have saved that for Movember... Oh well--I'll bring it back when the times comes.
-I watched some of the new Charlie's Angels series last night...
-And liked it.
-Sure, it's not the 70s version (which I've never really seen), but I'm intrigued none the less.
-My mom won't be watching it, that's for sure!
-I'm also looking forward to DW tomorrow night; I think it'll be good.
-I'm liking this Doctor more and more.
-"I like bow ties, bow ties are cool."
-"I like bananas, bananas are good."
-I can see where he picked that up.
-Also rather sorry to say farewell to Amy and Rory... But more so Rory, cuz he's cute.
-I wonder what would happen if Amy Pond and Jack Harkness ever met.
-A meltdown, that's what. I think it would go a little something like this:
JH: Hello
Amy: Hello.
JH: Captain Jack Harkness, and who are you??
A: Amy Pond.
Doctor: (rolls eyes) Oh, here we go....
JH: Lovely to meet you Amy Pond!
D: Stop it!
Rory: Who is that, and why is he flirting with my wife?!
JH: I was only saying hello!
A: I definitely don't mind...
D: Pond and Harkness! As if one flirt wasn't bad enough!

-There could probably be better dialogue for that situation, but I think Amy and Jack together would be on fiyaaah.
-Just the other day, I was helping clean our pool's solar blanket cover, and putting it up to dry over our clothes line.
-It made a pretty sweet canopy, and I thought if I were six years old, I'd be taking full advantage of pretending that was a house or a tent, and was hiding from something big and bad on the outside.
-I'm almost 22, and yet I still think like a six year old.
-Just goes to show that my inner child is still alive and kicking.

Warning: Lame-ball alert

The voices behind Aladdin and Jasmine. Dammit, I knew there was a good reason behind my childhood crush of him. (Not to mention I wish I had her voice)

Dance

Took my first ballet classes on the weekend after about 5 months. They were fun, but lawdy, my legs haven't felt this stretched in ages. As a result, it made going up the stairs today slightly more difficult than usual. And not to mention I certainly have a few things to work on for next time...

Thoughts on a Friday

-Back and forth, back and forth, and always in groups.
-I love watching the sparrows flitting around in the backyard; they are so darn cute.
-More often than not you can see them peeking out of the bushes, before darting out to the feeders.
-My my, the adventures they must have.
-Good enough for a children's story.
-Today, I finally did it: got my driver's knowledge test done!!!
-Before I know it, I will be tootin' around on my own in a new car.
-That is, after I have saved up enough money.
-I wish more men dressed like Don Draper.
-The world would be a so much more handsome place.
-What's this? blackberry messenger has crashed?? Bulls***!
-Actually, this scene expresses the situation, as well as my emotions perfectly.
-I want cheese.
-Or cake.
-Cheese cake?
-Mmm, yes please.
-The weather right now is perfect: September at its finest.
-I love you fall, but I will miss Mr. Sun sticking around in the evenings greatly.
-Shining through the trees, carried on the breeze, leaking through the shutters, warming up my knees...
-Cheese... You have won.
-This weekend, I will be taking dance class again! Can't wait.
-My passion for life, to quote that phogna-bologna soap opera.
-Plie, strech; plie, stretch...
-Let it begin.

Too cool

Cup of Jo always finds the neatest things! I love and envy the pair in this vid, because not only do they get to sample styles of the changing decades, but they get to perform the dance styles also.

Thoughts on a Friday to carry me into the weekend

Tumblr_lqxc99mpbv1r1v4f5o1_500_large

-I wish the motor in my computer would settle the f**** down.
-What I need it what I don't need.
-Which is cake.
-With sprinkles.
-My pink notebook beside me, pen resting.
-Pink icing.
-Empty pages, marked only by the faint grey lines of potential, wait to guide the hand and mind unto imagination.
-I've considered that a lot lately, coming across empty notebooks and seeing them with potential for scribbling in.
-I'd love to just sit in a Starbucks and write my time away.
-These, these are the days we live for.
-Now where have I heard that before?
-Probably odd potential, but potential none-the-less.
-Potential: Potent.
-Interesting word.
-That music is potent to my ears.
-Why am I home again?
-Why am I here, when I could be out there?
-Out where?
-Out there!
-Say no more, say no more.
-Did you finally get the chance to dance along the light of day? and head back towards the milky way.
-As you can see, I'm in a spacey mood.
-Spacing out.... Now.

Thoughts during a September long weekend

Tumblr_lquzh21nej1qb5t88o1_500_large

-A day at the Ex is the best.
-I come home at 9:00 last night with tired legs, tired feet, tired eyes, and yet I am happy.
-I haven't gone in  years, and it has not changed much in glitz, glam or technology.
-Yet that's what makes it such a familiar and reassuring place to return to at the end of the summer every year.
-I love wandering around the pavilions, watching the rides go and the many, many people that come.
-The food... Oh, the food.
-Even if you're not hungry, the smells of cotton candy or burgers are ridiculously tantalizing.
-I had my first, and probably last, experience of trying deep fried butter.
-That's right, you read that correctly.
-Over all, it was not bad, but not something I would go for again now that I know what it's like.
-I've wanted to try it since they first introduced it two-ish summers ago; thus, if you're going to be at the CNE or whatever fun fair there is, eating unhealthy is the thing to do.
-I just hope I walked off all the calories from it! Ha.
-This year, they introduced deep fried cola syrup.
-Thanks, but no thanks.
-Speaking of food: I decided if I ever visit New Orleans, this is among the places I will be visiting.
-All in lieu of the show Kid in a Candy Store.
-Which reminded me that I saw Duff Gordon (Ace of Cakes dude) while I was at the Ex! It was unreal.
-I wanted to hear him laugh.
-I saw plenty of piglets when I visited the animal building, and they were absolutely precious... Even when asleep.
-Speaking of which, awww.
-I think it would be just about this time when I'd be heading back to Halifax to start yet another school year.
-Feels... Odd.
-What an unusual summer it has turned out to be.
-Does that mean it will be an unusual fall?
-Change is definitely in the air; it's blowing in on the September breeze like Mary Poppins blowing in on the West wind under her umbrella. (Or is it East?)
-"Practically perfect in every way."
-I can't tell what it will be, but it's a-coming.
-And I will sure try to be ready for it when it arrives.

Back to School: Part II

Tumblr_lp21lfej3f1r0p8d9o2_500_large
From here

Ok, university/college folks--your turn. But first things first: congratulations, you made it! Pat yourself on the back, this is your first gargantuan step towards independence. The first year can be rather daunting, but if you could handle high school, you can handle pretty much anything. And besides, it's a lot of fun! So here's my list of dos and don'ts for helping you get through.

  • Do bring lots of pictures from home. Unless you have a soul of iron, homesickness will strike at any given time in the first few weeks. When that happens, it's best to just let it roll and pass over; if it makes you feel better, talk to someone. If you don't know anyone well enough, talk to an RA; they're pretty nice and will always be glad to listen.
  • Do get to know the people on your floor. They're the first people you've introduced yourself to here, so why not?
  • Don't be an obnoxious drunk... At least to the best of your abilities. That includes respecting your neighbors with the noise levels and behavior. (Some idiots in my residence decided set off the fire alarms a few times during study break in my first year. Which means they ushered all of us outside, in the dead of winter. Grrr.)
  • Do buy yourself a good pair of headphones. Neighbors will be noisy (like above), and you need to study. Otherwise, take advantage of the library where it is quiet.
  • Don't be a sloppy drunk. Nobody wants to walk through spilled beer in the hallways. Or worse: barf. ***Even worse: some RAs have rules to make you pay a dollar for it and clean it up yourself. At least at my university.
  • Do go out in decorating your room! I loved picking out stuff like posters and and bed spreads and what not. Hey, if you're going to be living there you may as well make the best of it. (Very good practice when you're living on your own one day)
  • Don't set fire to anything in your room. In most residences, candles or anything with an open burner is not allowed. But that's a given... Riiiight??
  • Do try to keep up with your readings. There's lots, but it will pay off in the end.
  • Don't go to class when you're sick. Really, it's not worth it; especially if you feel like crap and don't want to be there anyway. And nobody likes to hear someone else sniffing, snorting or coughing during a lecture. If anything, borrow someone else's notes the next time.
  • Do double check your alarm before going to bed on the eve of a midterm or exam. There's nothing more arousing than the sheer panic of waking up 5 minutes before that morning test is about to begin. Otherwise, set your alarm on your phone. And double check that!!
  • Don't lose your head when shit happens (like the previously mentioned above). Fear not, it will all work out in the end one way or another!
  • Do take part in activities around campus. It's a lot of fun, you make friends, and it's a good distraction from school work. (I was part of the Dal dance society myself.)
  • Do get to know the area around your campus.... It will be your home for the next four years (or more!). Likely you'll find some awesome little places to explore and revisit, like cafes, shops, pubs, etc. It will be these places you'll miss most when you're finished.
  • Do be careful with your belongings, such as your computer (especially in public). If you're in the library, you don't want to go off for a book and leave your stuff at a desk (even in the stacks), only to come back and find your things missing. Take your stuff with you before you go off!
  • Do back up your work with a USB drive. Your essays (and your life!) will be saved by that darling little insert if your laptop decides to kick the bucket at the last minute. And especially...
  • Do embrace university or college life. You'll never experience anything like again it afterwards! It will probably be the most exciting time of your learning experience (albeit with ups and downs), and you'll leave with plenty of good memories. Not to mention it will have changed you as a person in the best ways possible.
Have fuuuuun!!
