The Awakening

Have you seen this yet?? I watched this movie last Friday, and was mesmerized by it. Some reviews find it too be a bit too much, but I quite liked it. The soundtrack is amazing and powerful.

Rainbow War

Having first seen this back in--was it kindergarten?--I never thought I'd find it. But aha! Watching it now, it is just as awesome (perhaps even more!) as I remembered it to be.

ps: Ryan Stiles is in it. I laughed when I found out, because when you find him it's so obvious.

Hiddleston said the memorable aspect wasn't the thundering hooves, it was the advice that Spielberg gave him just before the camera captured that key close-up. "He said, 'How old are you, Tom?' I said, 'I'm 29.' He said, 'OK, I want your war face, the face you've been doing all day for all these battle scenes, all the hell fury. You're strong and courageous and you're 29. Then you see the guns and at that moment, I want you to de-age yourself by 20 years. You're a 9-year-old at that moment. I don't want you to do fear, I don't want fear or horror, I just want to strip away the man and see the boy.' It was the clearest and purest notes I had ever been given."

(While watching War Horse, I really didn't want to believe he died in this scene. Trés depressing.)

Indeed I saw it, indeed I did! It was better than I thought, who am I to kid? 

I liked the art, and a few of the voices, though I think the director made a mistake for some of his choices.

It starred Zac Efron and Taylor Swift; though because she didn't have as significant a role, I'll admit I was rather miffed!

Some songs were fun, and some were sad, and sometimes they were very bad.

The movie had a point, so future generations take heed! What saved the day was a single seed!

Because if you don't, you will have heard, chopping down trees is highly absurd!

No more plants, no more trees--good God, where are all the bees??!

The animals were cute, the Lorax imploring. Although those singing fish were rather annoying...

This rhyming scheme came easier than I thought; Dr. Seuss, how could I have forgot??

 I'll have to stop, sooner or later, I can't think of anything else to rhyme except for 'gator'.

I'll be back soon! Just wait and be patient, don't be a goon. 

Inspiration will hit, though I don't know when.

Return of the King

Around this time of December back in 03', The Return of the King made its widely awaited premier in theatres. Remember?? Man, that was exciting! At my school, people actually skipped class to go see it on its opening day (how I wish I was one of them, had it not been for a test that day). I've been thinking about the movie a lot lately, so I guess it's just the time of year that I feel the urge to watch ROTK (or any of them!) one more time. (And ahhh my god, it won't be long til The Hobbit* comes out! Eeeeee!)

psst--when I was thirteen, I was absolutely smitten with Aragorn and his rugged good looks. No lie.

Things that made my Week

-Watching baby sparrows grow and gain independence. Around my neighborhood, the sparrows are making babies like crazy (they apparently make families 2-3 times during mating season), and the majority of them it seems come to our backyard for our seed and bits of bread. The babies are crazy cute, just sitting all plump and impatient, waiting for Mom or Dad to feed them. Could waste half the day just watching them!

-A new perfume from Sephora! Grace, by Philosophy. I've always loved its scent; in fact, it's the first perfume I've gotten in a while that I truly love to have on. Folks, I think I've found my signature scent at last :) Another one I really liked was Falling in Love. But another time...

-Dan in Real Life. Saw it for the first time last Friday night, and I thought it was a cute movie. There were a few things I didn't quite like about it (such as the attitude of the two elder daughters), but I overlooked that, and I sort of wish I could get away to a place like that with my family and have that much fun. Also, the soundtrack is fantastic.

-Coming across Halloween and Christmas magazines from Martha Stewart. Which reminds me that it is now only half a year away. What is it about this time in the summer that makes me think of the Christmas season?? Terrible, I know--but deliciously terrible. Heheh.

Now that I've humoured you with a familiar Christmas image, let's move on, shall we?

-An incredible video starring Fred Astaire and Cyd Charisse, entitled Smooth Criminal, the song by MJ. It's awesome, awesome, awesome, and the scene fits wonderfully with his music. I could watch it over and over without getting tired of it.

-A NEW DRESS! That's always exciting. Very cute and summery, from Urban Outfitters. Now if only it would warm up a teensy bit more outside...

-Jumanji; I watched it a few nights ago on AMC, and it just brings me back to my lost childhood in the 90s. So does Honey, we Shrunk Ourselves. I now ask you this: what's your favourite 90s movie??

-Introducing the Badass of the Week.

-And finally, a really fantastic crepe I had for lunch one day when I went down to the Market. It had egg, spinach, mushroom and cheddar cheese on it, and it was FABULOUS.

This and that...

This is a fridge magnet I got a while back; not true of course, but it's pretty darn close! I love it.

Well, my week has been average. Spent my time recovering at home from all the walking; I've been catching up with friends, the news of the world, my summer reads... (Really, reeeally want a cappuccino maker now!) And speaking of books, it's almost heeeere!!!

Have been in the market for a skirt lately; I was out this weekend, and I looked around but didn't find anything of interest. Although...

I did come across this dress online from the Gap, which I think is cute. Also am in the market for a new swim suit, which is even more difficult. I'd love to find a retro style bathing suit some place; I just think they're incredibly cute and so wearable!

In movie news, I have to say I am looking forward to seeing Bruno; when Borat came out I didn't have much interest in it, but last week when I saw Sacha Baron Cohen's character parading though at the London premiere, it just made me laugh. And laugh.

With this, he kind of reminds me of a wacked out grown up version of Peter Pan. I think it's the hat.

And if I no longer laughed at that, a clip from Zoolander will usually do it. I try to pepper my conversations with the odd Zoolander quote.... But other movies I am waiting to see this summer are:

Summer has finally arrived in my neck of the woods! The temperature is up, the sun is out, and the pool's about to be opened sometime this week. Can't wait! Really can't wait, if it's supposed to be roasting, though...

Hope you all had a lovely weekend... And a happy Father's day! My fam and I spent a nice Sunday afternoon at home at had a lovely steak dinner.

Sights, Sounds and Spottings

Back in March or so when I took a trip to the mall, I wandered into this store called Teatro Verde; a really cute little place full of all sorts of things for home decor; if I didn't already have enough stuff in my room, I would have brought home so much! (Thank heavens I have a room at school to do that.) I did end up getting this handy(what an oxymoron) door stopper, which I love having.

The brand that makes it, known as Fred and Friends, is so neat! I love browsing on their site every so often, for there's always something interesting and possibly useful to find. Such as today when I came across this, and thought how I would love to use with my toast in the mornings. Kitschy, I know, but Frenchy never the less.

Usually every Monday, I get these emails from something called Sweet Spot.ca, in which they have a list of the sweetest items they have found. In their most recent email, they listed this absolutely gorgeous Betsey Johnson Evening Tea Party Dress, and needless to say I fell in love with it upon first sight (and wept at the price). No doubt you may also. I also really liked this bag that was listed from Anthropology. So nice!

I've seen this clip probably a gazillion times, but it makes me incredibly happy every time I see it! It was something for the How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria? auditions in Belgium. How I would love to take part in something like that!!

As I was browsing around online today, I found new pics from the up and coming movie The Lovely Bones, directed by the one and only Peter Jackson.

Speaking of movies, I saw The Reader last weekend; it was a very good movie, and I can see why Kate Winslet won the Academy Award! I also give kudos to the other actors who took part in the film, because they were equally fantastic. It's a rather sad movie, but it is also one of those movies that make you think, and question moral obligations. It's also quite different from what you expect, which is what makes it interesting. If you were in Hannah Schmidtz' (Winslet's character) position, would you have done the same thing she had in the trial?
