Allo, September!
Well, well, we have arrived in September yet again. My summer is drawing to a close! Already, the leaves are changing from green to red and orange. That's a bit saddening (though pretty), since summer just arrived in, well.... August. This weekend I will be packing up my clothes for my grand return home (for school). I will also be running around to pick up last minute items that I could have picked up weeks ago, but didn't. Things like boots, thread for sewing ribbons on my pointe shoes, etc. Hopefully I will at least have one final afternoon to lounge in the backyard.
Many, many thanks to the amazing Nicola of Inside the Cabinet of Wonder, whose photography skills and taste in music I have always admired! I was pleasantly surprised the other day to find an award/tag from her, which is a first for me as a blog-goer. I have to list 10 useless and/or interesting facts about myself. You ready? Alrighty then...
1. In the morning I have to eat before 11:00 or I consider my day screwed up.
2. My all time favourite Disney movie would be the Little Mermaid.
3. I crave cake all the time
4. I'm pretty sure I know the lines to the Mary Martin musical of Peter Pan... And that's not excluding the musical numbers
5. I've stuck to the series Lost since it first premiered, and will be faithful until its finale... This year! :(
6. I love dogs and hate not having any around
7. I know how to speak basic Italian
8. I want to go on a crazy adventure like in The Goonies!
9. Peanut butter and jelly with sliced bananas is my favourite sandwich
10. I'm horrendous at playing card games
Now I award/tag... The Wood Between my Worlds,The Dreams that Make us Real, Be Happy Anyway.
My tagging is a bit low, yes, but in time there will be more... Promise! :)

My Whirlwind Weekend... A weekend ago
So, we managed to turn my room from this:
What the room looked like with its previous owner....
Into this!!!
I am very happy with it. It's much brighter and more cheerful looking without the dark cover over the bed. And I have yet to put up my lovely Audrey Hepburn posters! I shall do that when I return in a few weeks... Which, come to think of it, isn't that far off now. School is coming again! Where oh where the time go??
Another bit of news that I'm excited to share are my new pointe shoes! I've been wanting to take pointe classes since forever, and finally this year will be my opportunity. During my fitting, when I tried them on, it was almost surreal. But it felt amazing :)
A few weekends ago, I visited the ROM with some friends in Toronto to view the Dead Sea Scrolls.

*Not my image!
I brought my camera only to learn that no picture taking was allowed. Darn. But that aside, it was very interesting to learn about them, and really see how much effort it must have taken the person to write it all out. We also saw other artifacts such as pottery and jewellery belonging to Jewish settlements in the Middle East; amazing to think that these items once were used and belonged to somebody so incredibly long ago!
That same weekend, I was supposed to see the band Nickelback; well, I saw the two show openers Papa Roach and Hinder. But no sooner than Hinder had finished, a tempest had blown in from the west and the heavens released a torrential downpour upon the audience of hardcore Nickelback fans! My companions and myself were unfortunate enough to be sitting on the grassy area beyond the amphitheatre, so we got the brunt of it. Thankfully, we were sitting on a fine blue tarp to keep our behinds dry (since it had rained earlier that day) so we pulled it over our heads to keep the rest of us dry. My shoes were not so lucky. Then over the speakers, they announced that Nickelback would be delayed due to the storm, and that the people sitting on the grass return to their cars until things let up. So we did, though there was lots of protesting. But it never did let up, so we ended up going home. But the lightening was spectacular! We later learned that Nickelback fully cancelled their show... Bummer! But despite all, it was really fun.
What else have I been up to?
Getting through my reading material....
While sipping Limade....
While having friends drop by.
Tomorrow, I'm off to an Indian wedding for my cousin. Should make for an interesting time... I wonder if we'll be made to dance to Jai Ho? I haven't even seen Slum Dog Millionaire... Anyways, have a splendid weekend! Will update... Soon.

I Heard my Mother Call my Name
One of my absolute favourite books to read (and have read to me by my Mom) when I was younger was called I Heard my Mother Call my Name, by Nancy Hundall. After digging it out recently from the bookshelf of kids' books in the basement, just reading it reminded me of the summers when I was a kid, of having fun playing outdoors with friends until the streetlights came on, and our parents beckoned us indoors. Then the street would be anything but quiet. I'll share an excerpt of it, but I just may continue for the next while...
"I heard my Mother call my name and I know I should go in, but it is summer and dusk and beautiful. Behind me in the house are soft sounds--quiet voices and a faraway song. Here on the porch, everything is still. I look out past the trees and into the street. Shapes move dreamily, back and forth. Is something there, or does the fuzzy light paint them in my head? I heard my mother call my name and I know I should go in..."
